200,000 Orders in 3 Minutes: Meet Xiaomi’s YU7

Tesla has company.

Xiaomi just launched the YU7, its new electric SUV, and the numbers are insane. Within 3 minutes of going live, 200,000 preorders rolled in. That’s not a typo.

YU7 isn’t a half-baked beta. It’s gunning straight for the Tesla Model Y, and beating it on price, performance, and features.

Let’s break it down:

Performance Specs That Punch Above Their Class

  • Standard model: 320 PS | 0–100 km/h in 5.88s
  • Pro model: 496 PS | 0–100 km/h in 4.1 s
  • Max model: 690 PS | 0–100 km/h in 3.23s

All models feature RWD or AWD and 800V architecture for ultra-fast charging. The Max variant can add 620 km of range in just 15 minutes.

Battery & Range

  • Standard/Pro: 96.3 kWh LFP battery
  • Max: 101.7 kWh ternary lithium battery

Range? A whopping 835 km (Standard) on CLTC. Even the performance-heavy Max clocks 760 km—easily outpacing most competitors.

Inside the Cabin: Screens, Fridge, AI

HyperVision display:
Three Mini LED screens embedded in a seamless 1.1-meter-wide dashboard panel

Audio system:
Premium 25-speaker Dolby Atmos surround sound setup

Convenience features:
Built-in mini-fridge for added comfort

Smart integration:
Deep integration with the Apple ecosystem, including Apple Watch connectivity

And here’s where it gets fun: YU7 supports external voice commands via Xiao Ai, Xiaomi’s smart assistant. With 8 external microphones and a speaker, you can literally talk to your car from the outside. “Open the frunk,” for example. It will.

Autonomous Hardware

  • LiDAR
  • Nvidia Thor (700 TOPS)
  • End-to-end driver assistance trained on 10 million+ clips

Undercutting Tesla

The YU7 starts at just RMB 253,500 ($35,360) across Standard, Pro, and Max trims. Every version comes priced below the Model Y, and in some metrics, it’s outperforming it.

Market Response

With production already underway, first deliveries are set for 1–5 weeks. Meanwhile, Xiaomi stock surged over 10% following the launch.

Outlook

Xiaomi isn’t just a smartphone giant dabbling in EVs anymore. The YU7 proves they’re all in, and the early order numbers are impossible to ignore. Tesla (and everyone else) should be watching closely.

And let’s be honest: from certain angles, the YU7 gives off serious Ferrari Purosangue vibes. Just without the V12 price tag. For $35K, you’re getting electric super-SUV looks, Apple Watch integration, a triple-screen cockpit, and yeah, a mini-fridge.

Hard to argue with that.
